Dr Andreas Demetriadis
Urologist
Dr. Andreas Demetriades was born in Nicosia and grew up in Latsia. His family origins are from Alona, Pitsilia, and the occupied village of Palekythro.
He graduated with honors in 2006 from Apostolos Varnavas High School and subsequently completed his 25-month military service as a Reserve Second Lieutenant of the Infantry.
In 2008, he began his studies at the Medical School of the University of Ioannina, from which he graduated in 2014.
After completing his studies, he began his specialization in General Surgery in Germany at the Marien Hospital Marl, one of the major surgical centers in northern Ruhr in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. There, he worked for two years, gaining experience in both General Surgery and Orthopedics and Intensive Care, completing the Common Trunk of General Surgery.
He then pursued the specialty he desired, Urology, at St. Josefs Hospital in Dortmund in 2017. There, he had the opportunity to engage with robotic surgery, contributing to the establishment of the Urology Department’s robotic center, working alongside the director during the clinic’s first robotic surgeries.
In 2018, he transferred to the Urology Clinic of Prosper Hospital in Recklinghausen, one of the top three robotic centers in Germany and one of the major urological centers in North Rhine-Westphalia. There, he specialized, becoming familiar with the entire spectrum of Urology in a clinic handling almost 2,500 inpatient cases annually and nearly 3,000 outpatient cases each year.
In 2021, he completed his specialization in Urology, passing the Westfalen-Lippe Medical Association exams in Münster. He continued his career at Prosper as a permanent Consultant B. From this position, he was tasked with setting up the Uro-Oncology/Chemotherapy department of the Urology Clinic.
Thus, his journey began in the field of chemotherapy, initially coordinating inpatient care and later establishing the hospital’s urology outpatient department. He had the opportunity to implement conventional chemotherapy, modern hormone therapies, and the latest immunotherapies for oncological patients in the Urology Clinic.
Due to his efforts, the department was able to achieve the title of Uro-Oncology Center, earning the trust of external urologists and patients referred to the clinic for treatment. With this title, the Urology Clinic at Prosper Hospital became the only non-university clinic in the state to receive this distinction for quality oncological services.
During this arduous effort, Dr. Demetriades also obtained the specialty of “Medikamentöse Tumortherapie,” a certification given to specialized physicians of various fields who have immersed themselves in the field of oncology related to their specialty. This specialty was awarded to him after passing the exams of the Westfalen-Lippe Medical Association.
Additionally, he successfully passed the European urology specialty exams of the European Board of Urology (EBU) and was accepted as a member, holding the title of Fellow.
His specialization in uro-oncology brought him into contact with the innovative field of onco-sexology. He continued his training in Sexual Medicine (Sexology), aspiring to help both oncological and non-oncological patients who might need assistance in this area. As part of this training, he has acquired Basic Psychosomatic education, and his goal is to soon complete his training in Sexology and become a pioneer in the field in Cyprus.
His desire to return home brought him back to Cyprus, where he lives with his wife and three children. As of February 2024, he operates a clinic at the Swiss Diagnostic Center while performing surgeries at Nicosia Polyclinic. At the same time, he collaborates with the robotic team of Apollonion Hospital in Nicosia.
