Mr Lambros Athanatos is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty expertise in Hand and Wrist Surgery. He completed his specialist orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom, where he was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT UK) in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
He graduated from the University of Szeged Medical School (Hungary) and began his clinical career at Larnaca General Hospital, where he completed his Pre-Registration training. He subsequently moved to the United Kingdom, completing Foundation Training in Norwich, followed by Core Surgical Training in the Mersey Deanery (Liverpool). During this period, he gained experience in Paediatric Orthopaedics at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and exposure to Trauma & Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Urology (East Kent), and Neurosurgery (Brighton) within the Kent, Sussex & Surrey (KSS) Deanery.
He later worked as a Speciality Registrar across several UK hospitals, including Oxford Deanery, Tunbridge Wells, Wexham Park, and East Kent Hospitals, before being selected for Higher Surgical Training in the East Midlands South Deanery. This included training at the University Hospitals of Leicester and the Queen’s Medical Centre Trauma Unit in Nottingham. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Trauma & Orthopaedics) in 2021.
He completed subspecialty training in Hand Surgery in Leicester and was subsequently appointed to the highly competitive TIG Fellowship in Hand Surgery in Newcastle, where he spent 1 year receiving advanced training in hand and wrist microsurgery at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and the Freeman Hospital, both tertiary referral centres for complex upper-limb surgery.
During his training, Mr Athanatos served as President of the Leicester Orthopaedic Trainees’ Association and as the East Midlands South Regional Representative for the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association. He also served as Training Career Representative for the East Midlands region.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, presented at international conferences, and contributed to surgical education through teaching roles in the United Kingdom. He has been a faculty member for international postgraduate courses, including the Wrightington FRCS Hand & Wrist Course, Wrightington FRCS Basic Science Course, and the Basic Surgical Skills (BSS) programme of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He is currently a faculty member of the Anatomy Laboratory at the University of Nicosia Medical School.
Mr Athanatos is a founding member of the Cyprus Society for Surgery of the Hand (CySHH), a member of the Cyprus Medical Association and Cyprus Association of Orthopaedic Surgery & Traumatology (CAOST), a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and an international member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH). He holds certifications in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS).

- Complex hand and wrist trauma (including fractures, tendon and nerve reconstruction)
- Major joint arthroplasty (Hip and Knee)
- Major joint arthroscopy (Knee and Shoulder)
- Sports injuries
- Spinal disorders
He returned to Cyprus in 2023 and is currently registered with the General Healthcare System (GESY). He is practising at Hippocrateon Private Hospital in Nicosia and is also a clinical associate at Zoe Medical Centre.
