Dr. Spyros Papacharalambous received his Dental degree (DDS) from the Faculty of Stomatology, Medical Academy Sofia, in 1987 with excellent marks from the State exams.
He started his specialization in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery of the same Faculty, covered by scholarship granted upon his marks, receiving his first postgraduate degree in Oral surgery in 1991 and his second in Maxillofacial surgery in 1993.
He followed one year training in General Surgery in the State University Hospital “Queen Joanna”.
In 1996 he received his Medical degree (MD) from the Higher Medical Institute, Medical Academy Sofia, with excellent marks from the State exams.
In 2004 he completed his Doctorate (PhD), entitled “Madreporian coral skeleton used as bone substitute in Oral and Maxillofacial area”.
Many of his scientific projects have been presented at European Craniomaxillofacial Congresses and have been published in reputable journals. He had also been widely referenced by other authors (including the official American educational book - Maxillofacial Surgery, 1999, Mosby, Harcourt Publishers).
In 2000 he received a Patent Diploma for method for preparing bone substitute from Scleractinian coral skeleton.
In 2002 at the 16th Congress of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery in Munster, Germany, he presented his own method for mandibular setback and advancement.
In 2005 he presented his Doctoral Thesis in the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, after invitation from the University.
In 2006 he wrote the chapter “Bone grafts and bone substitutes” in the “Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery”, an official educational book published by the Medical Academy Sofia.
He lectured both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Sp. Papacharalambous is a member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons, an Active member of the European Association for Cranio-Maxillofacial surgery and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He has been three times an elected board member of the Pancyprian Dental Association, a member of its Scientific Committee, as well as a member of Nicosia – Kyrenia Dental Association Scientific Committee. He has been also an elected board member of the Cyprus Surgical Society and Secretary of the Cyprus Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Currently he is the Vice President of the latter and President of the Nicosia – Kyrenia Dental Association Scientific Committee. He is also an appointed member of the Committee of specialists Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of the Ministry of Health.
Since 2016 he lectures on Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Nicosia Medical School.
